Roxxy makes her debut

I stumbled across the pictures today as I was looking through some old hard drives.  Honestly, I had totally forgot about them, but I’m so glad I found them.  These were taken in the summer of 2008 a few months after Ray and I adopted Roxxy from the Dallas Animal Shelter.

Ok, so I’m going to have to go into the story about how Roxxy came into our lives.  Ray and I were married on October 6, 2007 and we purchased our home exactly 2 months later on December 6 (literally we signed the papers on our 2 month wedding anniversary).  So through Christmas and the beginning of 2008 we slowly furnished our new home and purchased items here and there to decorate it.  Well, I was on the search for some decorative pillows for our living room that would match our sofa and accent chair.  So Ray and I headed down to the Knox/Henderson area to visit some of the stores there one Saturday in February.  In front of one of the stores, Paws in the City and the Dallas Animal Shelter had teamed together for an animal adoption day.  So there were probably about 20 dogs in crates barking like crazy, and we had to go check it out.  We both weaved through the crates looking at all the dogs and we both saw Roxxy.  She seemed to be smiling and happy and was the only dog not barking, and in fact she never made a sound.  Ray asked one of the volunteers if we could see her for just  minute.  We walked her around to the square foot of grass and petted her, she was the sweetest.  But the sensible side of us thought, we just moved into a house and was it really smart to get a dog right off the back?  Reluctantly, we handed her back to the volunteer and started walking towards the store.  Well, I looked back and there she was staring at us with her head tilted to the side.  It seemed like she was saying, “Wait where are you going?”  I immediately turned to Ray and said, we have to take her home.  He didn’t argue because as I found out later, Ray had secretly been visiting shelters in hopes of finding a dog.   We told the volunteer we wanted to adopt her and I bonded with her instantly.  We headed home to get Roxxy acquainted to her new home.  That is our story, we went shopping for pillows and came home with a dog (and no pillows).

These pictures were from our first day trip with Roxxy.  We drove up to the Denton area so I could scout some locations for a maternity/family session and we decided Roxxy could help.  We stumbled upond this run down barn with these pretty sunflowers so of course the photographer in me had to take pictures.

I just love the picture below because it is so Roxxy.  When she is super happy her tongue hangs down and falls to the side of her mouth.
