Reception Lighting and why you should have it.

Lighting for your reception by dallas wedding photographers, K & S Photography

I mentioned that each week we will dicuss a topic that pertains to weddings.  So this week’s topic is lighting.  As photographers, we are constantly thinking about lighting and what type of lighting will be best for the picture we are taking.  After all, good lighting is essential to good photography and helps tell the story we are trying to tell.   I know that you might be thinking, lighting – that hasn’t even crossed my mind.  Well, the honest truth is it should.  Lighting really transforms a space. Its really makes it pop and adds so much to the feel and ambiance of your reception.

There are different types of lighting to consider.  One is light from large windows in your venue. Its really pretty to see sunlight filling the room and gives the room a soft, airy feel. Another is called up-lighting.  That is where you have lights around the walls of a room that point upwards towards the ceiling and just color the walls with a pretty colorful light.  Depending on the size of the room 10-20 lights (sometimes more) will be placed along the walls and they transform the color when you walk into a room.  It is also a great way to give your wedding reception that WOW factor.  Pin-spotting is another form of lighting.  Pin-spotting are little spots lights that are directed onto your centerpieces.  This helps separate the centerpieces from the rest of the room so they stand out a little bit more.  Pin-spotting is often used in conjunction with up-lighting.   Chandeliers/Christmas lights/other light fixtures in your space can also help create some ambiance.  While they may not add a ton of light to the room, they are very much noticeable and just add that warm glow and a touch of elegance.  Candles are another great lighting tool.  They too add to the ambiance of the room and provide a nice, soft warm light.   Placing tea-lights around your cake or centerpieces just add that special little touch. Finally, the last bit of lighting to consider is dance floor lighting.  This can be a disco ball, color stage lights, etc. that a DJ will provide to help light up the dance floor, and it really adds a fun vibe to your reception.  Your DJ may also provide a gobo that is projected onto your dance-floor.  A gobo is a light monogram that incorporates the initials of you and your husband.

All of these different lighting aspects can work together and create that ultra fabulous wedding reception you have dreamed of.  Trust me, your guests will be stunned with they walk into a room that has been decorated in light.

So you might be wondering, so how do I go about getting some of this awesome lighting for my wedding?  There are some fabulous companies in Dallas that provide these services such as:
