Portrait Session with Katy | Dallas Photographers

Portrait Session with Katy | Dallas Photographers

A impromptu purchase is the inspiration for this shoot.  I decided that I needed to new strobes (studio lights) and 2 huge softboxes.  I know me and when I first try out equipment, I like to test it out so I get used to it.  Also I can be a bit spazzy when testing things out and I certainly would never want the first time I pull the lights out to be during an important session like a bridal session.  I asked on Facebook who was free to model and Katy won out.  It really had more to do with her being available during the week but she’s gorgeous and I’m so glad she volunteered.   Oh boy and am I so glad that she was super patience. My battery pack died (even though it had been plugged into the wall for days) and I had no way of getting a new one for the shoot.  I figured oh well, we can go to a local park and use a plug at one of the concession stands, um yeah so when did parks stop have plugs (I remember as a kid they did).  We finally decided to just go back to my house and use our jungle of a backyard and the greenbelt behind our fence.  I say we because I made my lovely husband Ray assist me.  And magic happened.  We saw a shopping cart and pulled that into our shoot and I love our crazy brush as a backdrop.  I have to say I really love the lighting in these, let me know what you think, do you like the look?

Regis Giles Photo Shoot | Dallas Photographers

Regis Giles Photo Shoot | Dallas Photographers

I mentioned how far behind I am on blogging portrait sessions, right.  Well I’m a tad embarassed to admit I shot these back in August of Regis Giles.  She is a firecracker and it was a blast to photograph her.  She is a tough, strong, intelligent, independent woman.  In 2010, Regis started her own company Girls Just Want to Have Guns, she promotes equality and self defense for women.  She is also an avid hunter and had just gotten back from a safari in Africa when we did this shoot.  While I may personally may not be the biggest gun advocate and I have never hunted, I have tons of respect for Regis and all that she has accomplished at her age.  She has more drive and passion than people twice her age and that is admirable.  Ok back to the shoot, our focus was to capture some promotional shots for Regis that showed her as the strong woman she is and also showed a little more softer, feminine side as well.  I mean look at her, she is drop dead gorgeous.  I also want to sent a huge shout out to Marc of eM the Venue for allowing us to photograph there.  Ok picture time :)

Matt and Rachel Wedding Photo Shoot | Dallas Wedding Photographer

Matt and Rachel Wedding Photo Shoot | Dallas Wedding Photographer

I’ve been dying to blog these photos, but I knew I wanted to get these photos published on a wedding blog. I know most of you reading this are probably thinking, why do you have to wait.  Well most wedding blogs want to be the first one to publish a particular shoot/wedding.  They are in the business of showing the unique sessions and they want to be the first ones to put images up.  Ok I’m hoping I’m making sense here.  So Wedding Wire published this shoot on their blog, YAY!!!!!  (click here to view).  So with that said, I can discuss how this shoot came to be.  I photographed a wedding that Rachel of Rachel Events was the coordinator for (shout out to Laura, love ya sweetie).  I knew through Facebook that Rachel was recently engaged herself.  So what do girls do, OMG let me see the ring :) and we chatted for just a few minutes while guest were enjoying dinner (no one wants pictures of them stuffing their face, right).  She talked about wanting to do a theme shoot for an engagement session and I was so down and told her that I would photograph it for her.  At first, the shoot was going to be in the oil derricks in Oklahoma.  Then when Rachel and I met for lunch to discuss the shoot, she let me know she wanted more of English Victorian feel with a mirrored walk way, a huge birdcage, lots of deep red arrangements.  Something very different.  I was so down for that.  So Bryna with Dr Delphinium, Heidi with Sugar Bee Sweets, and Nicole with Left-Handed Calligrapher got pulled in to help create this Victorian masterpiece.  OMG and did they floor me with their brilliance and creativity.  So the day before the shoot and the morning of the shoot, I saw it pouring rain. I was like really, we haven’t had rain for months and today of all days.  But somehow the rain stopped for the 2-3 hours of our shoot, we were so lucky.  And I have to say the gray, muddy, murky day kinda added to that English Victorian feel. It helped give that darker feel to the shoot that we wanted.  Rachel, OMG, Rachel was such a trooper, she stomped through the mud and did whatever was need to get “The Shot.”  The bottom of her gorgeous white dress was covered in mud by the end but she laughed it off in true Rachel style. Oh and Matt was awesome and he and Rachel are perfect for each other.  Whew Ok with all that said, here are the gorgeous pictures :)

Again I want to give a huge THANKS to all the vendors involved that made this shoot possible.  You all did the hard work and feel so blessed to have photographed it.  Thanks to Rachel for bringing me in on this and entrusting me to capture these images for you.

A Dallas Love Story | Dallas Wedding Photographers

If you have been following my blog for awhile then you know that I also love doing street photography (view here & here)  as well as being a wedding photographer.  I decided to combine both loves and photograph an engagement session in the style of street photography.  The hustle and bustle of the city, the bright lights, and the energy of the people are some of the many reasons why I love photographing in the city.  The style of photographing that makes you feel like you are in that moment.  I also really love capturing the love between two people and there is no greater joy than that.  So here is the combination of the two, please leave a comment or email me at kandsphoto at gmail dot com and let me know what you think :)

I’m so thankful to Sergio and Lacey for being the great friends that they are and braving the cold, almost freezing, night so I could capture this vision I had in my head.  I asked them to be my subjects for this shoot because they love the city life as much as I do.  They love the energy of the city and the life it breaths.  There is always new moments happening to capture with new people and new adventures.  It’s the perfect place to people watch :)

I do plan on doing lots more of this type of engagements and currently I will run a special for this type of session. So let me know if this is something you want to do for your engagement session and we can capture your own love story.

Jeremy and Karey’s Maternity Session | Dallas Family Photographers

Dallas Family Photographers | Jeremy and Karey's Maternity Session

Last night I meet up  Karey (the K in K & S ) and her husband Jeremy for their maternity pictures.  Karey wanted to get some fun, cool shots right at sunset so we met up at Arbor Hills in Plano.  OMG let me just say if you had been there you would have thought you would have thought I had no clue what I was doing, seriously.  We kept forgetting things and trying to figure out the best poses, couldn’t get the lighting right etc.  I’m just going to blame it on my assistant aka husband for being absent (he had to work) It was hilarious and Jeremy is just looking at us (ok more like me) like we are crazy.  Karey had a hard time also being in front of the camera for a change. But we managed to work it out though and the rest of the session went really smoothly.  So enjoy these oh so pretty photos of Karey and Jeremy.  Oh and of course I had to post these today as it is Father’s Day, so Happy Father’s Day Jeremy!!!!!
